As you guys know, I’m in the process of launching my website (blah, blah, blah, we know, Ang)…yeah, you know. One thing I’ve learned? Don’t be afraid to ask for help where you need it. You don’t know how to do everything, but there are people who are strong where you are weak. Sometimes finding the right person to take that burden off of you is priceless.

Sure I can build a website, but do I want to spend the time hashing out HTML coding details when someone with more experience could it better, easier and faster?

Nah.

Sure I have a nice camera and can take photos, but do I have the skills to make them turn out in a way that fits the vision for my brand?

Nah.

And I’m okay with that. I don’t know all the tricks, and I don’t know all the answers. And so leads me to the purpose of this post…

I want to introduce you to Jen Driesbach of Kreatid Photography & Design.

She is the genius behind the lens that has (thankfully!) agreed to take on the task of doing the product photography for my launch! I could not be more excited!! A fellow transplant from the good ‘ol Chicago area, Jen & I met through Twitter and I’ve been swooning over her photography ever since. There is a genuine, casual feel to her photos & that’s exactly what I love about them. Here are a few examples of her work:

See what I mean?? I can’t wait to work with her!! Thank you so much in advance, Jen!!!

TUESDAY SHOESDAY

Oh my gosh! I just had to unschedule my Tuesday Shoesday post I did this weekend. How could I forget I had these star-spangled, bald-eagled bad boys lined up!? Someone please tell me they have these shoes! (because I’m not buying them) I’m sure most of us have plans this 4th of July weekend & by golly, we need shoes to wear to our BBQs! Part proud American, part Wonder Woman…all insane. Happy birthday, America? Happy birthday, shoe lovers! Shoes by Giuseppe Zanotti.

Bridesmaid Dress Shopping

Know what’s awesome? Brides who don’t punish their bridesmaids with taffeta, tulle or some other horribly fitting material.

I don’t think I’ve shared this on my blog yet, but I was asked to be the Maid of Honor is my friend’s wedding! This past weekend we went bridesmaid dress shopping and my dear, sweet, Tena, is 1) Allowing us to choose our own styles and 2) Wants us to wear a super pretty color of chiffon. She searched all the usual suspects for a line that had exactly the color she was looking for and finally found it in the Amsale collection. Love! We spent the day at Twirl Boutique trying on pretty much every dress in the collection and taking pictures because the other 3 girls live out of state. I think the consensus is to go with long dresses and though it is totally cliché (and usually not true) you can totally shorten it and wear it again!

Here were some of our favs:

That chiffon is so beautiful and lays so perfectly. Hip, hip, hooray to flowy fabric, pretty colors, great friends/brides and quality bridesmaid dresses!! Woohooo!

Let’s (not) Get Personal

See here’s the problem…having a small business becomes your everything. You eat, sleep/don’t sleep, breathe it. It’s certainly my everything right now. I’ve had some really bizarre things happen to me since putting myself out there this past year or so. Things that made me super uncomfortable like making some icky phone calls, writing to-the-point emails, and worst of all – ((gasp)) – saying NO to people. It just comes down to being a true business owner and sticking up for yourself & your company. You can’t do everything, you can’t be everywhere, and you can’t care what people think. Now I’m not saying go around mouthing off, have no tact and be stubborn – just realize that sometimes you have to separate your personal feelings from business decisions. Not wanting to say no to someone for fear they might not like you is no excuse for going along with something you don’t believe in. Stretching yourself to the limit because you just couldn’t turn down a friend, agreeing to do things for free…it’s a vicious cycle. It can really suck, but if they don’t like you because of it, well, you know what to file it under.

Those Vivienne Westwood shoes are surfacing again! I thought about not posting this because I’ve done like 3 posts about these shoes already, but it was just too pretty… Image by Loic Photography.

TUESDAY SHOESDAY | Father’s Day Edition

In honor of Dad’s big day this Sunday, it’s a special Father’s Day edition of Tuesday Shoesday! Now when I saw these, I thought they were some pretty sexy shoes, so that being said I probably wouldn’t give them to my dad per se…but they sure would look good some first-time dads out there! Whether it’s your dad, the dad of your children, or the dad of your furry animal children – these would make the perfect gift. It isn’t easy to keep up with kids, so new kicks are exactly what he needs! Tourelle Oxford by Lacoste.

She Believed She Could, So She Did

You know, every once in a while, things can get a little overwhelming. Taking on too many projects, tight deadlines, endless amounts of research and hours in front of the computer…oh, and life. I go through these ups and downs feeling on top of the world, like things are happening, then realize I have a long way to go. I was talking to a friend over the weekend and he asked how my business is going. I said, “Oh, it’s going…I just have a lot to take care of but I can do it. I will do it.” and he said, “You can do it – you ARE doing it.” And I was like, you know what, he’s right. I mean crap, Ang, cut yourself some slack! As long as I am moving forward, making steady progress towards my goals, I AM doing it. I saw this poster by ValentinaDesign on Modern Emotive’s blog the other day and it’s just stuck in my head. If I believe I can, I will. And gosh darn it, I am.
