Caramel Apple Bar, Apple Crisp, Apple Dessert Obsession.

This.is.happening…whenever I get married. I harped about it last year about this time and I’ll do it again. I SO want a caramel apple bar!! Maybe I’ll do a trial run at my launch party to see how things go. I am obsessed with apple desserts anyway, and this is just a fun, interactive treat for guests! Oh you don’t have an apple punch card for Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory?? Here’s a tip, Mondays are double punch days! :) Friggin so good.
As long as I can remember, I never wanted a chocolate birthday cake or cupcakes, I always wanted my Grandma’s (or Big G as I call her) apple crisp. It is seriously the most delicious thing you will ever eat. My family has this recipe from the 1940′s that is so simple in it’s preparation (maaaaybe 6 ingredients?) but it is absolutely, hands down, THE BEST DESSERT EVER. When I bring it to someone’s house, I purposely bring it unbaked. Having the house fill up with the smell of cinnamon and apples is half the treat!! ‘Tis the season for it too. Warm apple crisp on a Fall day ((sigh))…when I make it again, I will share photos & perhaps the recipe, ya know, if Big G says it’s okay :)
I recently made these baked apples with maple-walnut sauce as well…umm awesome.

I found this recipe on Noble Pig – which just so happens to have a million other deliciously fattening recipes too. Okay, I’m done make everyone hungry now. Caramel apple bar image from With this Ring.

Remembering 9/11

I guess “remembering” isn’t really a good word to use in the title, as I know it lives on so vividly in everyone’s minds. I was in my freshman year of college when it happened, and I can remember coming back from class and my roommate was glued to the TV with a look of horror on her face. It was so surreal…
I am ashamed to admit that last week was the first time I’ve actually watched a documentary on 9/11. Not that I haven’t cared to before, but you seriously have to mentally & emotionally prepare yourself to watch something like that. It was a two-part, four-hour series on National Geographic called Inside 9/11. There were times I wanted to look away & change the channel, but I felt like I kind of owed it to the survivors, victims and their families to keep watching. Like, educating myself and enduring the heart wrenching emotion was the LEAST I could do. Just comprehending the mass chaos and the incredible heroes that emerged, whether it be a NYPD officer, firefighter or citizen, was so overwhelming.
I think it’s so important to take a few minutes to really reflect on what happened on this day, nine years ago. There were many brave, brave souls who lost their lives that day and they are not forgotten.

Happy Weekend!

I know, ANOTHER Fall photo… Are you guys choking from all of this Fall stuff I keep jamming down your throats? I hope not! :) I love this picture taken by Jennifer Weems because, believe it or not, this wedding took place in Arizona! It’s in Sedona, which is completely different than Phoenix. Clearly. Apparently there are TREES!?
Don’t forget that next week we have a new feature coming to the blog – THURSDAY PURSEDAY! Pretty sure I’ll work Fall into that post as well. I hope to make our new weekly feature really fun by having lots of guest bloggers & really, Naomi, Claire & Nicole are involved soooooo that’s pretty much awesome right there. It’s just like Tuesday Shoesday, we want everyone join in!
The clock is s-l-o-w-l-y tick tocking closer to 5pm…
I hope everyone enjoys the long weekend!

Feel Better Soon! A Virtual Get Well Card :)

So, I talk to my mom every Sunday & even still she says the only way she knows what I’m up to is by following my blog. As most of you know, she had surgery today to fix her broken wrist :( She broke it last December, but it never healed right & she’s been dealing with the incredible inconvenience of not being able to use her arm/hand fully. It’s been a long road, but thankfully she found a doctor who could help! Thank you to everyone on Twitter & Facebook for all your well wishes & thoughts! It’s overwhelming for me (and my mom!) to think that people we’ve never met are so nice to stop & wish her well.
Just one mention that I was thinking about my mom today & there was amazing support!

You Can Just Go Away Now…
…Summer. I am so over you. I want boots and scarves back. I want my car to not be 127 degrees (not exaggerating) when I get in it. I want apple crisp, cider and bonfires…

…oh leaves… I miss the Fall weather in the Midwest. Wanna know what’s sad? I am excited it’s supposed to only be in the mid 90′s this weekend. Brrrrrrrrr!! Last year I forced Midwestern traditions by going to a pumpkin patch & corn maze in Queen Creek, AZ. Even carved a pumpkin that met it’s demise on my balcony because of the heat.
Are you guys excited about Fall? What’s your favorite thing about it??

A Very Special, SURPRISE Wedding Present!

Invite by Andrea at Gwyneth Paige.
The Background.
Abby of Life in the Superburbs is getting married this weekend!! EEEEEK!!! I “met” Abby on Twitter a while ago and you might know her as a fellow Tuesday Shoesday-er & she also guest posts on Style Me Pretty. Oh sure she’s those things, AND she’s friggin fabulous. She is such a sweet person and I die over her style!!
The Idea.
Superfab Naomi Goodman from Enchanted Dream Weddings & Affairs came up with the idea to create a quilt as a wedding present for Miss Abby. From there, Suzy from Dog N’ Bird got in touch with Andrea Bell, the talent behind the beautiful quilt. So that’s: Brains behind the op = Naomi & Suzy. Skills behind the op = Andrea. They gathered up the group on Twitter & and we all submitted a quote to be embroidered onto a square. AWESOME!!!
The Quilt!
Here’s how my (giant) square turned out!

Yeah that’s right, I got all sappy. I got all waaaaay too long didn’t realize I was just supposed to send in one or two famous quotes :) There were quite a few of us involved in pulling this off, visit the blogs below to see what message everyone sent to Abby!
Kim @ Bride Goggles
Sofia @ Brancoprata
Suzy @ Dog N Bird
Magalie @ Weddings & Pretty Things
Alison @ The Knotty Bride
Andrea @ Gwyneth Paige
Brit @ The Landlocked Bride
Kate @ Simply and Forever
Robyn @ Meant to Be Sent
Naomi @ Enchanted Dream Weddings
And be sure to stop by Abby’s blog, Life in the Superburbs to leave her some wedding wishes & to see the entire quilt!
The party.
So even though we’re having this little “virtual bridal shower” for her, I imagine if we all got together I would be responsible for bringing this:
1.) Because every party needs champagne & 2.) Because I would read my quilt quote and then raise a glass at the end. CHEERS TO YOU ABBY!! CHEERS TO MANY HAPPY YEARS!!!
xoxo,
